The CalWORKS program, which stands for California Work Opportunities and Responsibilities to Kids, offers temporary support during challenging times for families with children. There are DCFS variables that determine eligibility. If a family is eligible and willing to make a commitment to the program, the case may be accepted. If a family is in the DCFS system and feels they can benefit from the program, members need to speak to their children’s social worker (CSW). The Family Preservation program is available to some families already in DCFS, and therefore, self-referrals or outside referrals cannot be accepted. Some of the services offered in our Family preservation program include in-home outreach counseling, child-focused activities, parent training and substitute adult role model training, teaching and demonstrating homemaker skills, transportation, court-approved parenting classes and referrals to a wide array of services. It promotes the physical, emotional, social, educational, cultural and spiritual growth of children in safe, caring family homes. Family Preservationįamily Preservation is a program designed to protect children by strengthening and preserving families whose children are at risk of experiencing trauma and exploitation. We turn obstacles into opportunities to restore hope and honor the inherent integrity of each individual in every family. In addition, we offer school-based mental health services in the Pasadena, Los Angeles, Baldwin Park, and Glendale/Burbank school districts because children's needs are often first detected in the school setting. We intervene before children are removed from their homes in order to preserve families, help them begin to recover, and create secure, permanent living environments. We also provide in-home counseling to families at risk who are unable to access the services in our resource centers. These centers provide parenting classes, mental health support, and additional crucial resources for vulnerable children and families. Hillsides offers numerous community-based programs and services through several Hillsides Family Resource Centers in Los Angeles County. Families struggling through crises or challenging situations know they can find experienced practitioners who are responsive, accessible, and compassionate.
